Magnetism and Thermomechanical Properties in Si Substituted MnCoGe Compounds

MnCoGe-based compounds have been increasingly studied due to their possible large magnetocaloric effect correlated the magnetostructural coupling. In this research, a comprehensive study of structure, magnetic phase transition, and thermomechanical properties for MnCoGe1−xSix is reported. Room temperature X-ray diffraction indicates that (x = 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15 0.2) alloys major consisting an orthorhombic TiNiSi-type structure with increasing lattice parameter b decreasing others (a c) Si concentration. Along M-T DSC measurements, it indicated Tc value increased higher concentration decreased structural transition Tstr. The dependence magnetization curves overlaps completely, indicating there no thermal hysteresis, shown second-order type. It also on replacement Ge decreases −ΔSM from −ΔSM~8.36 J kg−1 K−1 at x 0 −ΔSM~5.49 0.2 5 T applied field. performed Landau theory has confirmed in study, which consistent Banerjee criterion. measurement revealed takes place substitution Ge.
